Essay Film Festival: The Otolith Group presents: The Three Disappearances of Souad Hosni

27 Mar 2015

The screening is introduced by Kodwo Eshun

Lebanese director Rania Stephan’s found-footage essay film explores the life and work of Souad Hosni, the most important actress in post-independence Egyptian cinema, who committed suicide in an Edgware Road flat in the early 2000s.

Stephan compiled the film from over 60 VHS tapes of Hosni's films to create a complex meditation on national cinema, celebrity and genre.
