Essay Film Festival: Profession: Documentarist

28 Mar 2015

The screening will be followed by a Q&A with Shirin Barghnavard.

Seven female filmmakers make a film together about what it is like to be documentary-maker in Iran today. Dealing with the responsibility of bearing witness to the social and political realities, while negotiating the “red lines” of state censorship and fear of imprisonment, is part of being a filmmaker.

Each author explores her filmmaking process and her daily life, through computer games, protests, family archive and the opening of an artists’ café.  This film offers a unique insight into what it is like to be an Iranian filmmaker in these times, expressed through a collective cinematic voice.
