ICA Quickfire: Tristan Garcia

French philosopher and novelist Tristan Garcia is joined in the ICA Cinema by London-based writer, musician, broadcaster and curator Morgan Quaintance, for a discussion about his recent writings. Touching upon Garcia’s literature and philosophy, the pair will punctuate their conversation with screenings of TV and film clips that have lent influence to Garcia’s work.

A combined literary/philosophical talent, Tristan Garcia is hailed to emerge as one of the leading philosophers of his generation. His first novel Hate: A Romance received the 2008 Prix de Flore and his recently-translated book Form and Object: A Treatise on Things (Edinburgh University Press, 2014), a systematic philosophy essential to the development of metaphysics, the ontology of objects and speculative realism, is taking French philosophy by storm. Tristan Garcia was born in 1981 in Toulouse and attended Ecole Normale Superieure in Paris.

Morgan Quaintance is a regular contributor to Art Agenda, Art Monthly, Art Review, Frieze, Rhizome.org and other curatorial websites and blogs. He is the producer of Studio Visit, a weekly radio show broadcast on London’s Resonance 104.4FM, featuring international contemporary artists as guests, and works as a presenter with the BBC’s flagship arts programme, the Culture Show. He is also a founder member of the curatorial collective DAM Projects.
