Frieze ICA Bar

Frieze ICA Bar in association with K11 Art: Exhibition Preview Smiler: Photographs of London by Mark Cawson

15 Oct 2015

Bahamian Moor, Ivan Smagghe and Nathan Gregory Wilkins soundtrack the launch of ICA Fox Reading Room show Smiler: Photographs of London by Mark Cawson, presenting previously unseen photographs by Smiler (aka Mark Cawson) of London squats during the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s

Will Rigby and Oliver Jennings are Bahamian Moor; hardcore collectors and nu-Balearic partyheads. They're purveyors of the sounds of the beach, blissed out and ticked on, and they let the music speak for itself - through their monthly slot on NTS Radio, and at their regular Dance Café parties across various underground venues in south London.

Ivan Smagghe, the infamous French DJ and producer, made self-confessed “frozen Balearic gay biker house” as part of Black Strobe. He’s released a bunch of showstopping mix CDs, including Fabric 23 back in 2005. He’s also a member of Volga Select with Marc Collin, as well as heading up Les Disques De La Mort with Leon Oakey. In their own words, they like “old, new, extreme and lazy records, with an accent on weirdness.”

Nathan Gregory Wilkins is a true head – he’s made waves with his show on NTS alongside Ivan Smagghe, as well as his sleazy electro collaboration with Richard X, Cowboy Rhythmbox. Their latest release, Fantasma, has just dropped courtesy of Phantasy Sound: its mission statement is groove-laden, pulsating and saturated with after-hours fun. Wilkins’ DJ work, alongside production, digs deep into that cross pollination of hip-hop, disco, and new wave that occurred in New York either side of 1980.

The ICA partners with Frieze Art Fair and K11 Art Foundation to host London’s first official Frieze ICA Bar. Taking place over a five-day period, special guests host an evening of music and DJs in collaboration with NTS Radio. The bar is open 7.30pm - 1am every day.

During the Frieze ICA Bar programme, entry to the ICA will be free after 6pm. From 11am – 6pm the standard £1 Day Membership will be charged.
