Life is beautiful. Really, it is. Full of beauty and illusions. Life is great. Without it, you'd be dead. - Gummo, Harmony Korine
London Short Film Festival Artistic Director Philip Ilson introduces the festival:
The London Short Film Festival returns for the 13th year to champion new and original voices in cinema. We showcase new British short film, specifically documentary, experimental and animation work, proving that the UK is alive with creativity. We love to celebrate pioneers, and our showcase screenings of work by Derek Jarman collaborator Richard Heslop, groundbreaking nature cinematographer Mary Field and the great Harmony Korine (at our Korine Weekender in association with MUBI) will hopefully engage and inspire.
We're excited to champion new pioneers too, with a focus on new talent Jessica Sarah Rinland, Fyzal Bouilfa, Taina Galas and Joern Utklien. Retrospective experimental work comes courtesy of a revival of Mark Webber's Little Stabs at Happiness film and music night, plus we have events focusing on space travel and near death experiences. Things kick off with our amazing analogue opening night party to really set the tone for ten days of thought-provoking unconventional mayhem!
