KINOTEKA Polish Film Festival

10 Apr 201529 May 2015

KINOTEKA Polish Film Festival, the annual celebration of Polish cinema, returns to the capital for an extended bumper 13th edition. On offer is an exciting mix of film, music and visual arts with an outstanding selection of screenings.

Key to this year's festival is the New Polish Cinema strand, featuring a selection of both popular and critically acclaimed contemporary Polish films from the last year. This includes the UK premiere of Krzysztof Zanussi’s Foreign Body and Jerzy Stuhr’s Citizen.

The festival also showcases the breadth of original, innovative documentary that has come out of Poland. There are screenings of films by acclaimed directors Wojciech Wiszniewski and Paweł Pawlikowski, as well as work by emerging Polish documentary filmmakers, Aneta Kopacz and Tomasz Śliwiński, who were nominated for the Best Documentary Short Film category at this year’s Oscars.

In addition, to tie in with the release of the documentary 15 Corners of the World (Best Film Award at the Locarno Film Festival), KINOTEKA is showcasing the work of Eugeniusz Rudnik, acknowledged as the father of Polish experimental and electronic music. There is also the chance to attend a workshop with The Kissinger Twins (Dawid Marcinkowski and Kasia Kifert), who are at the forefront of creating exciting new web-based, interactive cinematic narratives.

The festival will close with a special screening of cult Polish comedy The Cruise. Taking inspiration from the film’s subject and its absurdist humour, festivities will continue with A Cruise Down The Absurd, a boat ride on the Thames with a 70s-themed interactive performance created by immersive UK theatre group Gideon Reeling.

Please note that KINOTEKA Festival begins on 8 April, with the first ICA event on 10 April. See the full festival programme
