A drama that plays almost like a documentary, Bahman Ghobadi’s No One Knows About Persian Cats portrays Tehran as a city with a vibrant underground indie rock scene and a forceful emerging generation of Iranian artists. A personal and understated social commentary, this film succeeds in opening up a world that few outside of it know, showing that hipsters in Tehran have more than we might expect in common with hipsters anywhere else.
