10 Dec 2011
Modernism, a Sentimental Myth is taking place in conjunction with Bloomberg New Contemporaries 2011: In the Presence and involves four exhibiting artists whose work connects with ideas of architecture, domesticity and modernism, alongside a panel of professionals working in the fields of art, architecture and urban planning.
The talk will begin with a site-seeing walk around the back streets of the ICA, where each artist will discuss a building/public sculpture/intervention they feel is significant to the discussion's theme and their own practice. Back at the ICA, a panel of speakers will discuss these connections and attempt to uncover what lies behind the idea of Modernism, a Sentimental Myth.
To continue the evening, join us for Everthing, a regular alternative club night curated by artists Thomas Shickle and Aisha Christison, members of the ICA Student Forum. The evening will include Jack Burton's sculpture (in the Theatre), works by artists David Rule, Jenny Pengilly and Jack Burton and music by Octagon Court. DJs DJ Mourka, Leon Hatcher and DJ Dj will be performing in the Upper and Lower Bar.
Speakers include:
The four Bloomberg New contemporaries artists are Yelena Popova, Minae Kim, Poppy Whatmore and David Ben White.
