Before Hindsight

16 Jun 2007

In the 1930s movie newsreels informed our view of world events, yet vital information, including footage of Nazi concentration camps, was suppressed. This unsettling documentary analyses the role of the government and other forces in the delusion of the British public.

One of four Iraq Memorial films that Cairo-based curator Mai Abu ElDahab has chosen to complement Memorial to the Iraq War. The films can only be said to fall under the genre of political documentary, and are provocative and multilayered essays that knit together photographs, newsreels, home movies and documents to unravel complex political events, and their construction by the media in the public mind.
