Frames of Representation: Urban Landscape Workshop with Khalik Allah

Frames of Representation: Urban Landscape: Workshop with Khalik Allah

20 Apr 2018

The workshop will be hosted by Dennis Lim, writer and film curator in New York City. He has been the director of programming at the Film Society of Lincoln Center since 2013.

Director and artist Khalik Allah's debut feature Field Niggas was the Frames of Representation's inaugural screening in 2015. This year, Allah returns to present a UK preview screening of his new work Black Mother and lead a workshop in which he discusses his focus on Black communities, urban environments and the ethics of depicting marginalisation on screen.

The conversation investigates the ways in which Allah's distinctive methodology seeks to resist the stereotypes that still often frame discussions of race and marginalisation, instead engendering an empathic and nuanced approach.
