Culture Now: Rose Wylie

Join us for a lunchtime conversation with artist Rose Wylie and curator Clarrie Wallis.

Rose Wylie (born 1934) makes large-scale paintings inspired by a wide range of visual culture. From imported supermarket flowers to films and celebrity gossip, Wylie draws on all areas of contemporary life to produce her loose, bold works. She recently had a retrospective exhibition, Big Boys Sit in the Front, at the Jerwood Gallery, Hastings, and her work is currently on show at Tate Britain as part of the BP: Spotlight series. Her work is included in the collections of Arts Council of England, Jerwood Foundation and Tate Britain, among others. She lives and works in Kent.

Clarrie Wallis is a Tate Curator. A leading expert on contemporary art, she has curated numerous exhibitions for Tate including Patrick Caulfield and Rose Wylie (2013), Barry Flanagan: Early Works 1965 - 1972 (2011), Richard Long (2009) and Mark Wallinger 'State Britain' (2007). This autumn she will co-curate Painting Now : Five Contemporary Artists. She has also published extensively on art, including most recently a monograph on Patrick Caulfield.
