For the London 2012 and CREATE Festivals, Frieze Foundation has been commissioned to produce five new public art projects located throughout east London’s Olympic host boroughs. The artists taking part in Frieze Projects East are: Can Altay, Sarnath Banerjee, Anthea Hamilton & Nicholas Byrne, Gary Webb and Klaus Weber. The series has been programmed by Frieze Foundation curator Sarah McCrory.

She has previously worked with artists including Charles Atlas, Nairy Baghramian, Spartacus Chetwynd, Pierre Huyghe, Hernik Olesen and Jeffrey Vallance. Before Frieze Foundation she was co-curator of the not for profit organisation Studio Voltaire, London, and curator of Swallow Street, London, Prior to this she was curator of self-publishing fair Publish and Be Damned and was a Director of Vilma Gold, London.

Anthea Hamilton lives and works in London. With an inter-disciplinary approach utilising props, montage, performance and sculpture, Hamilton describes her installations as ‘performative spaces’. Turkish artist Can Altay’s practice traverses the fields of architecture, art, design and social commentary. Altay has previously exhibited at The Showroom, London (2010), Kunstlerhaus Bethanien, Berlin (2008), Sala Rekalde, Bilbao (2006) and Spike Island, Bristol (2007).
