This Week at the ICA

ICA Executive Director Gregor Muir picks his highlights from the week ahead.

Our ICA Cinematheque season continues with a series of screenings celebrating the city of New York and its cinematic depictions, including the menacing King of New York. Other films at the ICA this week include the re-releases of Studio Ghibli classics My Neighbour Totoro and Grave of the Fireflies, and the documentary on Ginger Baker, Beware of Mr Baker which charts the life of one of the most unforgettable and controversial English drummers.

As part of our Artists Film Club on Wednesday 21 May we are screening a series of Dani Gal’s recent work, including Nacht und Nebel (2011), a 22 minute retelling of political intrigue based on an interview conducted by the artist with a Holocaust survivor. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with Dani Gal.

And on Thursday 23 May, University of Huddersfield hosts Public Engagement and Impact: Articulating value in Art & Design, a symposium that explores the social, cultural and political challenges around measuring and communicating public engagement, and the implications of this for those working in Higher Education and the Museum/Gallery sector.

For our Culture Now on Friday 24 May, we are joined by The Lloyd Corporation, a collaborative project that began in 2010 between Ali Eisa and Sebastian Lloyd Rees, encompassing works in sculpture, installation, print, video and text. I look forward to seeing you at the ICA very soon.
