Our second artist in residence, Glasgow-based Luke Fowler has been nominated for the Turner Prize 2012. We presented the London premier of Luke Fowler's All Divided Selves (2011), for which he has been nominated, as part of Artists' Film Club on 28 March 2012.

The film is the third of Fowler's works to take up the legacy of radical psychiatrist R.D. Laing. This residency marks the first in a long and rich programme of diverse work by artists invited to engage with and respond to our staff, communities, ideas, activities and history. Fowler will be producing a piece directly from the ICA’s rich and illustrious archive, and will also be contributing to our online Soundworks project, taking inspiration from Bruce Nauman’s Days (19 Jun—23 Sep).

Luke Fowler’s involvement with us spans several years beginning with his participation in the exhibition Beck’s Future in 2005, to more recently the LUX launch of the publication 8 Metaphors last year.

Let us know what you think of the Turner Prize nominations this year. Just how helpful is a nomination for an artist at this stage in their career? Does art need to involve rivalry, celebrity or controversy to get noticed by the wider public?
