Cléo from 5 to 7, Dir. Agnès Varda, France / Italy, 1962, 86 mins, French with English subtitles
Varda’s breakthrough film, Cléo from 5 to 7 is the story of a pampered chanteuse whose life is in turmoil. Set in 1960s Paris, Varda presents the story in real time, as Cléo waits 90 minutes for the potentially life changing results of a biopsy. The film boasts a brilliant central performance from Corinne Marchand as Cléo, who subtly matures from frothy, superstitious starlet as she faces her own mortality.
This screening will be introduced by Aga Baranowska, Film Programme Coordinator.
