Playback: Cinematography Masterclass

Originally from Derbyshire, England, Nicola Daley somehow ended up in Sydney, Australia and in 2003 she was accepted into the prestigious Australian Film, TV and Radio School to study an MA in Cinematography, where she trained on film. Daley shoots drama features, commercials and high-end documentaries. The Saviour, a short film she worked on straight out of film school, was nominated for a 2006 Academy Award.

For two consecutive years Daley has been nominated for Best Cinematography in a Documentary by the Australian Academy of Cinema and TV Arts awards. In 2014 Nicola was only the eighth woman in Australian history to be accredited into the Australian Society of Cinematographers. Recently Daley has shot a feature length drama documentary about the famous shoe designer Manolo Blahnik and her fourth feature film, Pin Cushion directed by Deborah Haywood, opened the Critics Week at the 2017 Venice International Film Festival. Pin Cushion was funded by the BFI and stars Joanna Scanlan. 

Stuart Bentley is a London-based director of photography represented by Lux. He is experienced in narrative fiction, documentary, commercials and music videos. His TV work includes This is England 90, Humans and Black Mirror, and feature films Palio and The Patrol.

Tim Robey has written on film, and occasionally books, for the Daily Telegraph since 2000. He is co-editor of The DVD Stack (Canongate), a guide to the best versions of movies available globally, and turns up on Radio 4's Front Row, the Film Programme and Monocle FM Radio.

Rina Yang is an award-winning director of photography based in London. She grew up in a small city in Japan, where she studied still life and portrait painting. Yang works across commercials, narrative and music videos. She has shot videos for Björk, Young Fathers and Emilie Sade, and worked with brands including Adidas, Lexus and Nike.
