José is a quiet man who keeps himself to himself. He is a regular customer at Juanjo Carrasco’s bar, and Juanjo and his friendly wife Pilar clearly regard him as a friend. José appears to have something of a crush on Juanjo’s sister Ana. The problem is that Ana has a partner, Curro, who is coming to the end of an eight-year prison term for a heist at a jewellery store that didn’t go as planned. His release presents challenges for all concerned. The directorial debut of renowned actor Raúl Arévalo (Marshland, I’m So Excited), The Fury of a Patient Man is an expertly paced urban Western, set in contemporary Madrid but with more than a nod to the 1970s. Dominated by an unnerving central performance by Marshland co-star Antonio de la Torre and shot by Cell 211’s Arnau Valls, Arévalo’s film is an electrifying crime pic with a strong social undercurrent.
