Los Angeles-based artist and poet Dena Yago discusses her practice with curator Laura McLean-Ferris at the time of her participation in London group show Columbidae (curated by McLean-Ferris, Cell Projects, 26 Mar – 17 May). Attending to the city and effects of urban environments, her recent work as a poet and artist embeds the language of consumer culture and communication. Yago is a founding member of trend-forecasting group K-HOLE

Dena Yago has presented recent solo exhibitions with Cubitt, London; Boatos Fine Art, Sao Paulo; Eli Ping Frances Perkins, New York; Gasconade, Milan; and Sandy Brown, Berlin. Her work has been presented as part of numerous group exhibitions including Lands' End, Bodega, New York; A Matter of Taste, Dingum, Paris; Revelry, Kunsthalle Bern; Bloomington: Mall of America, Bortolami, New York; Bathrobe Baden Baden, Staatliche Kunsthalle Baden-Baden. Yago's work has been discussed in Mousse, Frieze, and Dis Magazine. She received her BA from Columbia University in 2010. 

Laura McLean-Ferris is a writer and curator based in New York, USA. She is a regular contributor to Art Agenda, Artforum, ArtReview, Flash Art, Frieze and Mousse. Recent exhibitions include Geographies of Contamination at David Roberts Art Foundation, London, UK (2014), and Till the Stars Turn Cold at S1 Artspace, Sheffield (2014) and Glasgow Sculpture Studios (2015).
