Culture Now: Philip Long and Emmajane Avery in conversation with Sheena McDonald

Join Philip Long from V&A at Dundee and Emmajane Avery from the Victoria and Albert Museum in conversation with broadcaster Sheena McDonald, for a lunchtime talk at ICA.

Philip Long is Director of the proposed V&A at Dundee, a new international centre of design for Scotland, to be housed in a remarkable building at the heart of Dundee's waterfront and designed by the Japanese architect Kengo Kuma. It is intended the £45 million project, due for completion in 2015, will celebrate the history of design, inspire and help contemporary talent and encourage design innovation for the future. Previously Philip Long was Senior Curator at the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, where he organised exhibitions and wrote publications on Scottish art and design from the 19th century to the present and lead the Artists Rooms project in collaboration with Tate. In 2007 he curated Scotland's national representation at the Venice Biennale.

Emmajane Avery is Head of the Department of Learning for the V&A, the world's leading museum of art and design. The museum’s Learning Department runs a year-round programme of events for a range of audiences, both in the galleries and in the state-of-the-art Sackler Centre for arts education. Emmajane has previously worked as Head of Education at The Wallace Collection in London, as well as at Tate Modern and the Ashmolean.

Sheena McDonald is a journalist and broadcaster. She co-founded the Edinburgh International Festival and Fringe newspaper Festival Times. She has anchored numerous national radio and TV news programmes (The World at One, Channel Four News, etc) and regularly presented/reported on the arts, education, international affairs and religion. She is currently developing digital TV channels and working on the BBC World Service.
