Dear All,

This week's events at the ICA include:

On Tuesday 7 May, as part of our Radical Thinkers season, Esther Leslie, writer and Professor of Political Aesthetics at Birkbeck College, introduces Max Horkheimer's Critique of Instrumental Reason.

Among films at the ICA this week, due to popular demand we will be extending our run of Don Hertzfeldt’s It’s Such a Beautiful Day, a film which captures filmmaking at its most original. Other films include Gimme the Loot by Adam Leon, which depicts two teenage hustlers who plot to leave their stamp on an iconic New York City landmark. And on Thursday 9 May we have an ICA Cinematheque screening of The Man Who Fell to Earth.

As part of our Artists Film Club on Wednesday 08 May we will be screening a selection of Rosa Barba’s most significant works made over the last decade. Barba’s 16mm and 35mm works explore landscape and, more broadly, the material of celluloid. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with Barba in Cinema 1.

On Friday 10 May, please join us for the opening screening of Sarah Gavron’s extraordinary documentary The Village at the End of the World. Gavron’s documentary looks at life in Niaqornat, Northwest Greenland, one of the most remote communities on Earth. The screening will also be followed by a Q&A with Gavron.

This Friday, our Culture Now talk has London based artists, writers and curators Pil and Galia Kollectiv discussing how their work addresses the legacy of modernism and the avant-garde. The Pil and Galia Kollectiv will be joined in conversation by Jamie Stevens, curator at Cubitt Gallery. I look forward to seeing you at the ICA very soon.

Best wishes,

Gregor Muir
ICA Executive Director
