This Week at the ICA
ICA Executive Director Gregor Muir takes a look at the week ahead.
Dear All,
On Tuesday 23 April we have Radical Thinkers: Federico Campagna on Infinitely Demanding by Simon Critchley, where Campagna presents the argument for anarchism as an ethical practice, as developed in English philosopher Simon Critchley’s passionate and witty publication Infinitely Demanding.
Then on Wednesday we have Artists' Film Club: Collective Action, a group screening of works by Bani Abidi, Hassan Khan, Ciprian Muresan, Ahmet Ögüt, Michael E. Smith and Pilvi Takala. These films investigate moments of collective and individual action that challenge social and political paradigms.
25 and 26 April see the ICA play host to Parallel of Art & Life: A Conference on the Independent Group, to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the ground-breaking Independent Group exhibition, Parallel of Life & Art. Curated by Anne Massey, this conference brings together researchers, practitioners and curators who are currently examining different aspects of the Independent Group’s transdisciplinary practice.
Among cinema on offer this week, from 26 April – 2 May we have a film season to celebrate the career of French director Agnès Varda. Films include La Pointe Courte, Vagabond and Cléo from 5 to 7, with the latter two being introduced by Jemma Desai from I am Dora. On Sunday 28 April, we will also be hosting a Members’ Preview for Tropical Malady, a fantastical two-part folk tale that starts off as a straightforward love story before taking an unexpected surrealist turn.
On Saturday 27 April we have MickRonsonfest, an exploration of the career of iconic guitarist and producer Mick Ronson, as we assess his impact on the history of popular music through a series of rare film screenings, talks, and performances.
And among exhibitions, we continue to show Bernadette Corporation: 2000 Wasted Years, The Independent Group: Parallel of Art & Life, and Frank Benson’s outdoor sculpture Flag (Union Jack).
