Born in 1931 in a village in southern France, Jean-Claude Carrière has led one of the most varied and successful literary careers. After early work with Jacques Tati, Jean-Claude Carrière met Luis Buñuel in 1963, with whom he worked with as writer for twenty years (Belle de Jour, The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie, That Obscure Object of Desire). Following this, Carrière has since worked with other notable directors including Milos Forman, Louis Malle, Philip Kaufmann, Jonathan Glazer, and Michael Haneke.
