On the 14 and 15 September we welcome the Parker Posey Film Festival to the ICA. Organiser Sam Cuthbert tells us what we can expect.

Parker, who? Sadly it's not an uncommon reply when we say we organise the Parker Posey Film Festival. We're used to it by now. We reply saying she was the scene stealing star of 30 something indie movies in the 1990s, an incredible tour-de-force of gusto and beauty, one of the most undervalued comedic actresses of her generation. Eventually we'll point you to YouTube clips of the berating librarian from Party Girl, or the screaming cheerleader in Dazed and Confused, her meta-performance in Scream 3. Or maybe you’re the kind of person that a clip from You've Got Mail or Josie and the Pussycats will twig your memory.

Suddenly you recognise her, pieces of the puzzle start falling into place and you'll realise, like us, that you've loved her in everything you've ever seen her in.

Therein lie the origins of the festival. We were sitting around swapping favourite Parker roles and it dawned on us that she hasn't, for whatever reason, entered the cultural consciousness. Her presence looms large in actresses like Greta Gerwig, writer/directors like Lena Dunham and simple film fans like us!

This second edition of the festival is a chance to broaden our views on what she means to us. She's matured over a 20 year career, found incredible roles and working colleagues in mediums outside of film.

Stupidly we kept film in the title just as she gave one of her greatest performances in Louie. We've managed, out of dumb luck, to score the UK premiere. We play crowd favourite Party Girl again and you'll come out feeling high on life – guaranteed. We explore her work with legendary indie director Hal Hartley in Henry Fool and Fay Grim. In between all these treats we'll be screening oddities and treats we've amassed since last year.

There's a lot of good feeling in the world towards Parker Posey.

We hope you'll join us for this very special weekend.
