Anish Kapoor Makes 'Gangnam Style' Video for Ai Weiwei

From today the ICA Cinema will be playing a short 'Gangnam Style' video by Anish Kapoor prior to all feature film screenings.

The Turner-prize winning artist has made the film in response to the Chinese authorities' censoring of Ai Weiwei's own 'Gangnam Style' parody video, in which Weiwei re-enacts the K-Pop star PSY's signature dance moves whilst wearing restrictive hand-cuffs as an overt comment on the lack of freedom of expression in his homeland. The Chinese government removed the video from the internet within 24 hours.

Kapoor's film, choreographed by the prodigious dancer Akram Khan, features over 250 participants from across the arts, media and human rights sectors, all dancing along to PSY’s infamous pop song. What began as a novelty music video that went viral has now become an international celebration of political resistance and dissent, and the ICA is proud to exhibit Kapoor’s film, as Executive Director Gregor Muir states: “Ai Weiwei deserves our full support.”
