Workshop: Membranes, muscles and machines: Re-materialising sound and image through objects, technologies and the body

Workshop: Membranes, muscles and machines

8 Aug 2015

Join artists Mark Peter Wright and Helena Hunter on a workshop on listening and sound practice. The workshop has been developed in response to Lives on Wire by Eloise Hawser and is open to 16+ participants.

This practical workshop will explore unique methods for approaching sound and listening in relation to the moving image. The artists will lead a series of group activities investigating the multiple ways that objects can be perceived, recorded and re-imagined through technology and the body.

Participants will listen to the hidden sounds of inanimate objects, create sound effects from everyday materials, and experiment with the camera as a tool that can be modified, repurposed and subjectively transformed.

Through a series of demonstrations and activities, students will discover new possibilities for aural and ocular representation in film. This will result in a collaborative film and soundtrack that treats materiality, the body and technology as vibrant agents within the construction of experimental sound and image making.

His work has been exhibited at various international venues including New York Public Library, Museum of Contemporary Art Rome, Institute of Contemporary Art Glasgow and Tate Britain. With Salomé Voegelin he co-curates Points of Listening, a monthly series of experimental workshops and events in association with CRiSAP, University of the Arts, London.
