Eat Your Own Ears presents Woodpigeon + Miserable Rich + Banjo Or Freakout.
Calgary's Woodpigeon's chamber-folk concoctions of banjo, glockenspiel, choir and Mark Hamilton's diffident vocals make for thoughtful melodious moments and joyous rock-outs. Combining the mystical comic-book fantasies of Mark's lyrics with the sparkling music of the band, comparisons to Sufjan Stevens and his delightful ilk aren't far wrong, setting Woodpigeon up to be the next great Canadian breakout band.
Members of the community-spirited, DIY-championing Wilkommen collective, The Miserable Rich support. They are James de Malplaquet and Will Calderbank, sometime members of Lightspeed Champion’s band, and producers of beautifully arranged string sections and acoustic songwriting all featured on their acclaimed debut album 12 Ways To Count.
First on is special guest and Italian one-man sensorial army Banjo Or Freakout, currently impressing in all the right places. According to his myspace Alessio has one rule when it comes to making music: 'to record every track just one time. No second chance. But I can adjust things by changing the sounds with my cheap mac software.' Live, the rule is simply to beguile with his unique Robert Wyatt-drinking-with-M83 sound.
