Still: Weekend

Weekend + Sympathy for the Devil

7 Dec 2008

Capturing the revolutionary spirit that led to the May 1968 student uprisings in France, Weekend was first screened at the ICA just two month after Paris burned. The film follows an unlucky married couple who set out in their car for a weekend trip to the countryside that turns into a nightmare of traffic jams, revolution and cannibalism. Screening with Sympathy for the Devil, Godard's examination of The Rolling Stones alongside Black Power militancy and Nazis in a pornographic bookshop, initially screened to ICA members only due to its rejection by UK censors.
