Filling the seats at the first three Ultra Culture Cinema events was no walk in the park: we were up against competing previews, a World Cup semi-final and the general public’s general disinterest in Harmony Korine’s Trash Humpers. Luckily for us, our fourth film is something of an open goal. Rarely has a movie been so eagerly anticipated, extensively hyped and universally fanboy-worshipped as Edgar Wright’s upcoming comic book epic of epic epicness Scott Pilgrim vs. The World.
And with good reason. Pilgrim is a force of nature, blending comedy and action with a truly innovative visual style that seems destined to be imitated for years to come. Featuring a cast so unbearably cool that they might make you throw up a little bit with envy (Cera! Culkin! Winstead! Evans!), Wright’s Hollywood debut is every bit as captivating, subversive and effortlessly hilarious as Shaun and Fuzz, but with 1000% more video game references, awesome Beck tracks and vegan Brandon Rouths.
So what can you expect on the 25th? Well, we’ll have all the usual Ultra Culture Cinema fun and games, plus a whole night of extra special surprises, giveaways and endless unruly partying! (Or at least until the ICA closes at 1).
