The
sorryyoufeeluncomfortable collective (SYFU) was initiated in 2014 by artist
Barby Asante and curator
Teresa Cisneros, and began with a collective response to
Horace Ove's film
Baldwin's Nigger, resulting in a collaboration with Asante on her project
Baldwin's Nigger Reloaded. Since this time, the collective has grown and evolved in shape, but retained a dialogue with the words and work of James Baldwin. As the activities of SYFU and their previous projects at the ICA are grounded in shared acts of reading and reflection, so forms of collective reading and learning recur throughout
In formation.
