Akira Kurosawa's barnstorming follow-up to his own Yojimbo finds Toshiro Mifune returning as the title character, this time using his formidable swordsmanship and sly wit to help a band of idealistic young men root out the corruption that's threatening to poison their village.
Using much the same formula as before, Kurosawa and Mifune combine forces to create a brazen, brilliant piece of popular entertainment with a pointed, poignant edge.
