Roots & Shoots presents Sargasso Trio + Ned Collette + C.W. Stoneking + Sandy Dillon

4 May 2007

"I'm listening to this and I don't know what year it is or country I am in. Who f**king cares. I like it " Vice

Created a year ago to showcase the best new artists emerging from folk roots, Roots and Shoots blends a traditional folk heritage with electronica, americana, country, jazz, blues and psychedelia. After hosting the legendary Fairport Convention last month, our May Pole is now adorned with shiny new ribbons from the next generation.

Headlining are Norwich's acoustic synth-folkers Sargasso Trio, mixing odes to the road and ballads of the sea with a percussive chorus of saucepans, bottles and customised rhythm shoes.

Ned Collette brings his warm baritone in support of debut album Jokes and Trials, described as: "Every bit as intriguing as it is plainly beautiful" (The Big Issue).

Plus, C.W. Stoneking, invoking the spirit of 1920's Southern blues in his original hokum style, and American blues songstress Sandy Dillon, who released her fourth album for One Little Indian in 2006, and whose rich, raw vocals have garnered comparisons to Janis Joplin and a female Tom Waits. With DJ Nick Luscombe on the decks, tonight's got it all – and it's only a fiver.
