Richard Rhys is a London-based artist and designer, who’s work explores the aesthetic tradition of pattern design. In 2005, Rhys founded the Pattern Foundry, a library and resource of digital patterns. Rhys will present a new artwork as part of the Live Weekend: Notation and Interpretation, inspired by the writings of experimental American composer, Morton Feldman. This work will feature in the ICA gallery and help frame the schedule of activity during the Live Weekend.
The Pattern Foundry initiates collaborations with artists and designers, as well as creators from a range of disciplines such as mathematics, music and literature. Each new contribution provides a digestible insight into its creator and their practice.
Join us as we launch the long weekend with the Pattern Foundry and performances from the Kammer Klang players of Mauricio Kagel’s Match and Christian Wolff’s Exercise 15 (lead by Newton Armstrong). Followed by DJs in the bar and Kerry Yong performing Aldo Clementi. Mauricio Kagel's Match is performed by Olly Coates (cello), Lucy Railton (cello) and Serge Vuille (percussion) at 8.30pm in the lower gallery.
