Becoming Animal + discussion

7 Dec 2018

Becoming Animal, Dir. Emma Davie and Peter Mettler, Switzerland / United Kingdom, 2018, 78 mins, English

Becoming Animal is a different species of nature film. By tracing how we sense the ‘more than human’ world, and exploring how it also senses us, this philosophical essay deepens and expands the relationship between humans and animals, culture and nature.

Set in Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming, filmmakers Emma Davie and Peter Mettler join with the influential philosopher David Abram (The Spell of the Sensuous) to ask how the written word and technology have affected the way we see. Prying open our senses to witness the so-called natural world, Becoming Animal prompts us to reflect on what it means to inhabit our animal bodies.

This screening is followed by a Q&A with director Emma Davie in conversation with artist, naturalist, activist and author James Marriott.

Becoming Animal screens again in the ICA Cinema on Friday 21 and Saturday 22 December.
