Peter Singer, professor of bioethics at Princeton University and one of the world's most important ethicists, comes to the ICA to argue that our food choices matter. Our obligations to future generations and to other species of sentient beings, he argues, favour a vegan diet, or at least one with drastically reduced consumption of animal products and, most urgently, the elimination of factory farming. Food is one of the central issues of our times, contributing to climate change as well as affecting tens of billions of land animals and putting in doubt the future of many species of fish.
