The second film in Larrain’s ‘Pinochet trilogy’ is set during one of Chile’s darkest periods—1973’s military coup. Against this terrifying and murderous backdrop Post Mortem tells the story of an apparently insignificant and charmless couple—Mario and Nancy (played by Alfredo Castro and Antonia Zegers). Their poignant relationship is played out amid the death and destruction that results from military ideals imposed with no care for their consequences.
Nancy disappears after her brother and father, a communist and Allende supporter, are arrested. Mario searches for Nancy, all whilst trying to conceal the real cause for death behind the increasing number of bodies at the morgue.
