Northern Soul

This music-rich celebration of the underground movement that became an enduring legacy of ’70s youth culture is built around the ambitions of two young friends and aspiring DJs, Matt and John (charismatic newcomers Josh Whitehouse and Elliot Langridge).

Fashion photographer Elaine Constantine’s debut feature faithfully recreates scenes featuring a legion of genuine fans dancing to the compelling rhythms of often obscure ’60s American soul artists. Matt and John cement their friendship and discover themselves in the process, and characters played by Steve Coogan, Ricky Tomlinson and real-life soul diva Lisa Stansfield enhance the film’s narrative strength.
