New Year's Fear

1 Jan 2011

You've made it through New Year's Eve… but can you survive the day after? Prepare yourself for New Year's Fear on 1 January 2011 at the ICA.

Rather than easing you gently into 2011, we've gathered together four fright-filled previews of forthcoming horror highlights to start your New Year with a scream. Spend the afternoon and evening with us - from 1.30pm through to 10pm - as we take your mind off the resolutions you've already broken with violent revenge, monster sharks, flesh 'n' frenzy from the Philippines and the return of a master of terror…

New Year's Fear kicks off at 1.30pm with the take-no-prisoners remake of a notorious exploitation classic as 1978's I Spit On Your Grave gets a savage new look for a contemporary audience. Following that, the team behind the Ozploitation documentary Not Quite Hollywood (which opened at the ICA in 2009) brings a similar style and spirit to the B-movie madness that swept through the Philippines during the 1970s. Expect illuminating insights from the likes of Joe Dante, John Landis and Roger Corman and jaw-dropping clips from films you can't quite believe ever existed.

Then we move into the evening with deep-sea suspense from Australia, as four friends become prey for a great white shark in The Reef. Finally though, only one man who can provide a fitting climax to the disturbing day - genre legend John Carpenter returns with his all-new experience in tension and terror, The Ward. Set in a female psychiatric hospital where deadly secrets hide around every corner, Carpenter's first feature film in a decade sets the standard for horror cinema in 2011.

The bar will be open all day and there'll be special deals on food and drink for those who choose to start their year with us. Tickets are just £30 for all four films (or £24 if you're an ICA Member).
