New Year Preview: The Last King Of Scotland

4 Jan 2007

"rivetingly enjoyable... never a dull moment." The Guardian

An early chance to see the vivid fiction feature debut from documentary maker Kevin Macdonald (Touching the Void). Young Scottish doctor Nicholas Garrigan (James McAvoy) travels to Uganda and finds himself, through a combination of coincidence and seduction, taken under the wing of Idi Amin (a sensational Forest Whitaker) as the charming yet brutal dictator's personal physician. Garrigan's initial naïve optimism about Amin's apparently populist rule gradually falls away, and the film turns from a sly, witty picaresque into a charged, terrifying thriller. We hope to welcome producer Andrea Calderwood to take questions after the screening.
