Live Weekends: Rhythm Section

3 Nov 20107 Nov 2010

Celebrating the influence of percussion on today's contemporary music scene, the ICA looks at experimental and popular music. The fourth in a series of 'Live Weekends' - Rhythm Section animates the ground floor of the ICA with collective and collaborative performances and a participatory installation. With weekend contributions from EYE (of Japan’s Boredoms), Soft Circle, Shit & Shine and many others. In the gallery audiences are invited to accompany selections from The Wire magazine’s “Top 100 Rhythms of All Time” and elsewhere over the weekend engage with performers whose work is uniquely informed from a percussive perspective. From the new electronics of dubstep and funky to the continuing physicality of rock, jazz and afrobeat ‘banging the drum’ remains as pervasive as ever – and in the UK, evident of a fertile dynasty, rich in musical experimentation.

Rhythm Section is organised by Jamie Eastman, Head of Live Programme at the ICA in conjunction with The Wire magazine and with the kind support of Tickle.
