In The Last Days of the City + Q&A

2 Aug 2017

Filmmaker Tamer El Said's debut feature In the Last Days of the City, tells the fictional story of a filmmaker from downtown Cairo, played by Khalid Abdalla (The Kite Runner, United 93, Green Zone, Tigers), as he struggles to depict the soul of a city on the edge while facing loss in his own life. Shot in Cairo, Beirut, Baghdad and Berlin two years prior to the outbreak of the revolution in Egypt, the film’s multi-layered stories are a visually rich exploration of friendship, loneliness, loss and life in cities shaped by the shadows of war and adversity. The screening is followed by a Q&A with the director Tamer El Said and actor Khalid Abdalla.

Forming part of In formation, the screening activates a discourse around the city as a simultaneous space of oppression, dissent and social possibility. A day-long workshop on 3 August, titled The Self and the City, will address filmmaking and the city with director Tamer El Said and actor Khalid Abdalla.
