Katharina Fritsch, Rat King

Katharina Fritsch in Conversation with Iwona Blazwick

15 Sep 2006

Internationally-renowned artist Katharina Fritsch creates iconic sculptures and images that imprint themselves on the mind. Evoking fairy tales, folklore and myth, the appearance of Fritsch's works creates a tension between the familiar and the uncanny, the humour in her work tempered by an incessant sense of unease. She is best known for Rat King, a nightmarish vision of a circle of rats linked by the accidental joining of their tails, which has its roots in European folklore.

Katharina Fritsch lives and works in Düsseldorf and has had international exhibitions throughout the world. Tate Modern, London presented a large selection of key works in 2001. Katharina Fritsch will be joined by Iwona Blazwick, Director of Whitechapel Art Gallery, London.
