Director Mohsen Makhmalbaf's 2001 drama - made with documentary-style immediacy - follows an Afghani woman as she returns to her home country from Canada to search for her missing sister. The further she travels, the more she learns about the harsh reality of life under the Taliban regime. The first film to deal directly with this humanitarian issue, and one of the most important films of the new century.
