Judd Greenstein & Nadia Sirota

25 Jun 2011

Judd Greenstein and Nadia Sirota are a composer and violist, respectively, both Brooklyn-based and both visiting London to hear the premiere of Two Boys by their old friend and close collaborator, Nico Muhly. Featuring as part of the ICA’s alternative club night Everything, Greenstein and Sirota will perform works composed by Judd and Nico at what promises to be a London debut to remember including the sight of an electric guitar quartet crammed onto the ICA bar stage.

Judd is a composer of structurally complex, viscerally engaging works and a passionate advocate for the thriving "indie classical" community in New York and beyond. Recent commissions include Carnegie Hall, ETHEL, yMusic, and the Minnesota Orchestra for their Inside the Classics series. His work has been heard at venues such as the Tanglewood Festival of Contemporary Music, Amsterdam's Musiekgebouw, the Bang on a Can Marathon, Cincinnati's MusicNOW Festival and his own Ecstatic Music Festival in New York. Co-founding New Amsterdam Records in 2008, Greenstein was quick to ask Nadia Sirota to record for the label. Sirota is known for her unique interpretations of new scores and for commissioning works herself by some of the most talented composers of her generation. She’s a regular guest with such groups as The Meredith Monk Ensemble, Alarm Will Sound and Continuum, and a founding member of ACME (the American Contemporary Music Ensemble), yMusic, and the Wordless Music Orchestra. Her debut album for New Amsterdam was a New York Times 2009 record of the year and she’s also recorded with Max Richter, Jóhann Jóhannsson, Stars of the Lid, The Swell Season, The Bedroom Collective, Bryce Dessner, Grizzly Bear, Jónsi, The National, Ratatat and Arcade Fire.

Join us at the ICA for this exclusive and one-off performance followed by a debut screening of Plan of The City a short film by Joshua Frankel, with pre-recorded music by Judd Greenstein and NOW Ensemble.
