Ishmael Beah: Boy Soldier

29 May 2007

At the age of twelve in his native Sierra Leone, Ishmael Beah was picked up by the government army and discovered that he was capable of truly terrible acts. Now living in New York and a member of the Human Rights Watch Children's Rights Division Advisory Committee, Beah comes to the ICA to talk about his book A Long Way Gone, a rare first-person account of what it is to be child soldier. After a short talk about his experiences, Beah will be interviewed about the issue of children at war by Michela Wrong, former Africa correspondent for the Financial Times and author of In the Footsteps of Mr Kurtz.

This talk will take place at the Foreign Press Association, 11 Carlton House Terrace (next door to the ICA's back entrance).
