Intimate Conversations

23 Jul 2017

Yance Ford and other contributors lead a workshop that takes the practice of filmmaking as a starting point to discuss how cinema can be used as a tool for resistance, and to provide insight into the complexities of issues related to race, violence and criminal justice. As part of the In formation programme, this discussion speaks to broader questions around the role of cultural practices and institutions in the drive towards social justice. The workshop aims to confront and meditate on loss, fear and the impact of grief over time, dealing with the illusive meaning of 'justice'.

Yance Ford is a recipient of the Creative Capital Award, a MacDowell Colony Fellowship, and a Sundance Documentary Film Program Fellowship, and was among Filmmaker magazine's 25 New Faces of Independent Film in 2011. For ten years Ford worked as Series Producer for the PBS showcase POV, where his curatorial work helped garner more than 16 Emmy nominations. Ford is also an architectural welder, and while at Modern Art Foundry he helped assemble the sculpture Maman by Louise Bourgeois – a series of three spiders exhibited at Rockefeller Center, and now on permanent display at the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, Spain.
