Im Kwon-taek: Festival

20 Oct 2012

Lee Joonsup, a well-known writer in his 40s, is informed that his sick mother has passed away. Caught up more so in cancelling his many appointments and telling his literary friends about his mother’s death than he is with her passing, his arrival to her funeral produces noticeable enmity and discomfort among other family members. Festival is both rich in its poignant wisdom in the face of death and in the melancholy which so often accompanies family reunion.

Dir. Im Kwon-taek, South Korea, 1996, 107 mins. Korean with English subtitles.
