A wry romantic-comedy with an DIY feel and refreshingly frank tone. Greta Gerwig (also co-writer) delivers an unguarded performance as a young woman wooed by two of her work colleagues, although she's not sure that either really makes for a suitable boyfriend. Director Joe Swanberg is one of the key figures in the low-budget 'mumblecore' world and this, his third feature, virtually defines the genre with its post-college characters taking their first tentative steps into the adult world of professional and personal commitment. Further confirming the sense of an indie film-making movement is the casting of Mark Duplass and Andrew Bujalski, directors of The Puffy Chair and Mutual Appreciation.
