Into Great Silence

A welcome return to the big-screen for this meditative cinematic experience. Filmmaker Philip Groening waited thirteen years to be granted access to the monastery of the Grand Chartreuse in the French Alps in order to film the daily life of the Carthusian monks. There’s a sublime splendour in these hushed surroundings, creating an atmosphere that gently and gradually envelopes the viewer in a state of grace. Released by Soda.

Dir Philip Groning, Germany 2006, 164 mins, cert U, subtitles, Digital.
