Frieze ICA Bar

Frieze ICA Bar in association with K11 Art Foundation Closing Party

16 Oct 2015

The closing party for the ICA Frieze Bar. We round off the week with ergonomic dancefloor productions from Akito, Deadboy and Roll Through.

Akito is an underground producer and DJ with a singular take on rib-rattling electronic club music, who looks out on the global dance music landscape with a London perspective. A founding member of collective, promoters and record label Sub Skank, from which he released his highly acclaimed Metamessage EP, Akito started his career on pirate radio stations in the tower blocks of North London. He since risen to guest slots on high-profile London stations Rinse FM and NTS. His productions have caught the ears of some of the UK biggest DJs, racking up spins on BBC Radio 1, Kiss FM, Rinse FM, and many more.

You could describe Deadboy’s music as heartache for the dancefloor. Tapping into London’s rich musical heritage from Scott Walker to early 90′s Hardcore, all the way through to UK Garage and House, Deadboy’s tracks somehow still share the same sense of futuristic melancholia as the first wave of Detroit Techno by the likes of Derrick May and Juan Atkins. Outside of Numbers, Deadboy spins R&B under the name of DJ Tearjerker and is one half of gameboy dancehall act Hyper Black Bass.

Rachel Noble and Alec Curtis host the Roll Through show on NTS, which flaunts their signature mixing, with two two fingers firmly on the pulse of club music from all over – from grime and hip-hop to ballroom, ghetto-house and Jersey. Rachel Noble also does visual work for some of the biggest names in London's music scene, like Boiler Room and Just Jam.

The ICA partners with Frieze Art Fair and K11 Art Foundation to host London’s first official Frieze ICA Bar. Taking place over a five-day period, special guests host an evening of music and DJs in collaboration with NTS Radio. The bar is open 7.30pm - 1am every day.

During the Frieze ICA Bar programme, entry to the ICA will be free after 6pm. From 11am – 6pm the standard £1 Day Membership will be charged.
