Fallujah: the Exhibition

1 May 20072 Jun 2007

Offsite at the Old Truman Brewery, Brick Lane

To accompany Fallujah, contemporary artists Lucy and Jorge Orta have created a series of emblematic sculptures and installation pieces to create a setting and visual statement for Holmes’ play, Fallujah. The striking life-size installations are designed to communicate and reflect the experiences of everyday citizens, the roles of the aggressors and our position as outside witnesses.

The Anglo/Argentine artist couple employs a range of techniques, including sculpture, couture, painting, printing and light projection, melding art and design with social activism. The team explores crucial themes of the world today, with a focus on raising public awareness of issues such as sustainable development, community and the social link, and ecology and recycling.

Their most recent work, 'Antarctic Village – No Borders', is a statement of freedom of movement and will, a global village installed on the Antarctic Peninsula. The project was developed as an endeavour through which the artists could consider the current climate of migration and the refugee status held by an increasing number of the world’s population.

The exhibition will be open Mon-Sat (excluding Wednesdays) from 11am - 5pm throughout the run of the play, excluding Monday 14 May.
